My final works are a great example of my appeals to logic and creating a logical flow for a written or presentation work. In my presentation my logical flow is outlined in my reflection. My logical appeal is basically some if/then control statements. If the non-family environment is detrimental to children in a documented way and barring homosexual parents has negative economic impacts and if there are no legitimate quantifiable negatives for homosexuals being parents then the implicit and explicit homosexual parenting bans should be lifted. My writing and appeals are almost always logos and never pathos because I am a scientist and mathematician first and a political or cultural entity second. My critical thinking is demonstrated by my ability to analyze everything that is relevant in a deliberate and impartial way. This can be seen when I analyze my figures and theory to express their worth and relevance/usefulness to my argument.
I have a better understanding of the background of the types of prejudice and bias and the reasons behind them. I can also analyze an argument and find if it is simply a personal prejudice or moral or if it has factual backing. In my presentation I mention religious discourse of sin, I learned the roots of this began in early Jerusalem as a secular tension. Homophobia and hetero-sexism are enforced with tools such as religion and policies and are based solely on personal morals, fears and bias. This can be seen when I analyze the no side of whether homosexuals should be allowed to be parents. My approach to fighting bias and prejudice is logic, this is how I got over my own personal biases and prejudice.
I have advanced my skills of analysis in this class and it’s always good to have practice writing things with a logical flow. I have learned more about the power of words and pronouns and how to be more gender and orientation neutral in a professional setting. I have reinforced my beliefs that you can learn something from anyone if you listen and keep an open and clear mind. I have learned how to better fight learned reactions to material of any kind. Beyond that one of the main goals of this class is to learn to embrace difference and accept it as sameness. I believe I’ve achieved this and can always find a reason why.
